Legal Advisor

We are looking for a knowledgeable and proactive Legal & Compliance Officer to join our team. As a Legal & Compliance Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring that WeDance operates legally and ethically. You will be responsible for registering WeDance as an official organization, securing our trademark, and ensuring that all legal documents and policies are in place. This is an unpaid, fully remote, part-time role focused on learning and gaining experience while contributing to our open-source non-profit project.

About Us:

WeDance is a non-profit dedicated to supporting and promoting dance around the world. We unite dancers on one platform, helping them find and join dance events in any city. With over 3,000 weekly visitors on our site, we provide a comprehensive resource for dance enthusiasts everywhere.

Responsibilities:

• Register WeDance as an official organization in the appropriate jurisdictions.
• Secure trademark registration for the WeDance brand to protect our intellectual property.
• Draft and maintain essential legal documents, including privacy policies, terms of service, code of conduct, and other compliance-related documents.
• Monitor legal and regulatory developments to ensure ongoing compliance.
• Provide legal advice and support to the WeDance team on various issues, including intellectual property, contracts, and data protection.
• Collaborate with external legal advisors as needed to address complex legal matters.
• Develop and implement internal policies to ensure that WeDance operates in a legal and ethical manner.

Requirements:

• A degree in law or a related field, with a focus on intellectual property and corporate law.
• Proven experience in legal and compliance roles, preferably with non-profit organizations.
• Strong understanding of trademark registration and intellectual property protection.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team.
• Passion for dance and commitment to the mission of WeDance.
