About the job
Application Performance Management (APM) is the next step in observability, and this role is responsible for enabling customers to use Datadog with a variety of APM solutions. The role knits together a combination of scale and embracing new standards – like OpenTelemetry – to allow customers more diversity in how they instrument their applications. The team is responsible for ingesting all of the tracing data that is received by Datadog, and providing it to every downstream system. You’ll be working closely with the instrumentation ecosystem, and you’ll be working closely with the Datadog product teams that consume the data. As many projects will cross team boundaries inside Datadog, the role will allow you to contribute to many high profile projects and lead what data is collected and how it is used inside the rest of the datadog product.
At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships that it builds, the creativity it brings to the table, and the collaboration of being together. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our employees can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.
What You’ll Do:
- Manage and grow a team of 7 engineers that own and operate the services responsible for data ingestion and billing.
- Partner with product management to define and prioritize features that unlock value and new instrumentation opportunities.
- Ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of the APM Intake distributed systems.
- Create a strong team culture aligned with our engineering standards and our customer focus
Who You Are:
- A Software Engineer at heart with a previous experience leading software engineering teams, as a tech lead or people manager.
- Excellent leader with strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to build and lead high-performing teams
- Strong understanding of Kafka, RabbitMQ, and streaming or event-driven architectures.
- Hands-on experience with Java or Go, and a willingness to spend some time with hands on keyboard, and participate in an on-call rotation.
- You have a track record of delivering high-quality software products on schedule and collaborating closely with product partners.
*Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you’re passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply. *
Benefits and Growth:
- New hire stock equity (RSUs) and employee stock purchase plan (ESPP)
- Continuous professional development, product training, and career pathing
- Intradepartmental mentor and buddy program for in-house networking
- An inclusive company culture, ability to join our Community Guilds (Datadog employee resource groups)
- Access to Inclusion Talks, our Internal panel discussions
- Free, global mental health benefits for employees and dependents age 6+
- Competitive global benefits
Benefits and Growth listed above may vary based on the country of your employment and the nature of your employment with Datadog.
