About the job
About Commonwealth Fusion Systems:
Commonwealth Fusion Systems is on a mission to deliver the urgent transition to fusion energy.
Combining decades of research, top talent and new technologies, we’re designing and building commercially viable fusion power plants. And working with policymakers and suppliers to build the energy industry of the future.
We’re in the best position to make it happen. Since 2018, we’ve raised over $2 billion in capital – more than any other fusion energy company in the U.S.
Now we’re looking for more thinkers, doers, builders, and makers to join us. People who’ll bring new perspectives, solve tough problems, and thrive as part of a team.
If that’s you and this role fits, we want to hear from you.

- Produce refined design concepts for efficient manufacturing and in-time delivery, considering cost
- Author, review and approve design notes, technical specifications, regular reporting, assembly procedures and documentation necessary to fabricate and install the parts
- Work closely with the design team and maintain regular contact with the selected vendors to provide them with necessary technical support.
- Enforce observance of the required quality standards and help document and process nonconformance
- Offer insight and creative ideas about designed features and machining processes that can meet the basic requirement, with quality, cost of manufacturing and lead time in mind
- Communicate effectively in a team and a fast-paced environment, making well informed decisions

- At least 1 year providing engineering support to production hardware in the form of resolving technical issues and executing design changes for manufacturing
- Solid background in component design and FEA analysis
- Experience with rapid prototyping and failure testing
- Experience with a machine shop environment and precision machining
- Advanced CAD skills, both in solid modeling and drawing; understanding of GD&T and spatial tolerancing
- Familiarity with all steps in the design process, with an emphasis on creativity and simplicity
- Able to communicate effectively in a team and a fast-paced environment, making well informed decisions
- Be self-motivated and exhibit excellent problem-solving skills
Bonus points:
- Knowledge of vacuum application, including welding and surface preparation/cleanliness is desired, but not required
- Knowledge of RF systems, including high-power is desired, but not required
Essential Requirements:
