About the role
Lead our engagement with key government stakeholders around the world to help enable our mission to make education fun, free and accessible and to expand the reach and revenue of our solutions.
As Director of Government Relations, China you will drive our efforts to engage with the Chinese government to build a regulatory environment where we can accomplish our goals. You will help us build relationships with key decision makers, monitor regulatory developments, help us decide what are the best actions to take to help influence legislation that affects us and also provide us input on what governmental and regulatory considerations we should take into account when making decisions about our products and services.
You will...
- Develop and implement a government affairs strategy to build positive relationships with relevant Chinese government bodies, policymakers, and regulatory agencies. Leverage these relationships to influence policies that support Duolingo's mission and growth objectives.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments in the education and technology sectors. Proactively find opportunities and challenges that may impact Duolingo's operations and collaborate with internal teams to craft public policies and participate in government processes in the company's interests.
- Engage with relevant government officials to advocate for policies that foster innovation in language education and support proficiency testing. Provide insights and analysis to relevant partners on potential policy changes and their implications
- Build and maintain positive relationships with key partners, including government agencies, industry associations, NGOs, and other relevant bodies.
- Be prepared to handle any government-related crisis situations that may arise. Develop contingency plans and communicate optimally with internal and external team members during sensitive situations.
You have...
- Confirmed experience in government affairs or government relations in China.
- Demonstrated understanding of the political landscape and policymaking processes. Proven ability to navigate Chinese government structures and form effective relationships with key decision-makers.
- Strong advocacy and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal. Ability to articulate sophisticated issues and represent Duolingo's interests persuasively to partners.
- Proven track record of developing and driving government affairs strategies that align with organizational objectives.
- Outstanding problem-solving skills, good judgment, and the ability to make well-informed decisions in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Exceptional candidates will have...
- Experience counseling technology companies in China, particularly consumer facing technology companies and companies using new and ground breaking approaches to redefine existing industries.
- Experience working with education or language proficiency companies in China.
