About the job
As a Technical Specialist, you will be part of the Terminal Second Level Engineering (TSLE) System Engineering & Integration Team that handles the full System Test and Integral life cycle of multiple projects. You will learn NAS system software, in FAA procedural requirements, and in satisfying the requirements in areas of STARS/TAMR and Hardware Integration, standardization and other engineering considerations regarding FAA missions and National Airspace System (NAS) systems. You will also gain knowledgeable of both state-of-the-art and aging technologies that compromise the FAA’s NAS and the products from emerging NAS modernization program.
You will also be responsible for the following:
- Work independently under general guidelines and objectives
- Monitor National Air Space (NAS) system, software and FAA procedural requirements when providing STARS System Integration and Field support, testing and interface of software and computer system
- Ascertains STARS/TAMR and Elite system upgrades are supportable, maintainable and certifiable
- Gather data for (FRD) Facility Reference Data
- Load software, firmware, adaptation and configuration.
- Ascertains user requirements, performs system-wide analysis and functional allocations, exhibits an understanding of the requirements, provides a responsive approach to the customer, and satisfies the customer requirements
- Interface with specialists from OSF, SOS, TSLE
- Help generate trip reports from deployment leads and collect data from the deployment sites
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required and 10 years of related experience, including at least 5 years of National Air Space(NAS) experience.
- Demonstrated expertise at Technical Specialist 4 level
- Associates Degree in a related field will be accepted in lieu of 2 years of experience
- Bachelors Degree in a related field will be accepted in lieu of 4 years of experience
Technical proficiency of the following:
- Experience in a variety of Computer Skills and the ability to learn tasks related FAA Tech Ops/ATC functions; Networking skills (how routers/switches/hubs work together); Ability to understand the high level architecture of STARS (Standard Terminal Automation Replacement Systems) and CARTS (Common Automated Radar Terminal Systems); Basic understanding of electronic component installation and wiring.

- Ability to learn complex software systems, mainframe and microcomputer programming
- Including a variety of application and operating system software packages
- Experience supporting data reduction and analysis
- Knowledge of Terminal lab/test bed configuration
- Ability to lift 50 to 75 pounds for removal and disposition of old equipment and installation of new equipment
- Able to clearly communicate technical issues with non-technical personnel, follow directions, manage time efficiently, think outside the box and meet organizational deadlines
- Ability to travel 50% of the time
This position requires work to be performed at the William J Hughes Technical Center and may require travel to airport locations around the USA when scheduling dictates or at management discretion.
