Materials Testing, Data Analyst
Divergent 3D
The Role
Divergent is a technology company that has architected, invented, built, and commercialized an end-to-end factory system called the Divergent Adaptive Production System (DAPS™) that comprehensively uses machine learning to optimally engineer, additively manufacture, and flexibly assemble complex integrated vehicle structures and subsystems. Products created using DAPS are superior in performance, lower in cost, rapidly customizable to meet mission and customer-specific requirements, faster to market, and scalable on demand to high volume production. Divergent is a qualified Tier 1 supplier to global automotive OEMs, and Divergent is now expanding to support mission critical needs in the Aerospace and Defense sector.
Purpose of Job:
We need a forward-looking and innovative team member who will help to shape the future of processing 3D printed materials, structures, and components. Divergent is seeking a motivated individual to help with our testing, validation, and materials development efforts. Under supervision of the Manager, Materials Testing, the role will work to make simple conclusions new discoveries from the large amounts of materials testing data gathered constantly by the Materials Testing Department. This team member will look at data with a statistical perspective to find trends, determine when trends are real, and what additional information may be hidden under noise. Compliance with safety and 5S procedures is a must. The individual must be able to perform assignments with minimal supervision.
Essential Job Functions and Performance Standards:
Process data from tests into reports with plots that clearly represent the key results of the test. Furthermore, perform deeper analysis of all data gathered during a test to look for any secondary trends and anomalies – for example, did the temperature of the room affect some of the test results, even if it wasn’t expected?
Work independently to look for larger-scale trends in all test data gathered – between multiple tests and test programs. Data is consistently gathered from printers and material testing and could be affected by printer conditions, powder used, etc.
Work at the direction of the Materials Testing Manager and Quality Director to analyze data when needed for specific test purposes – e.g. all of the test results related to one customer program
Interface with the data scientists on the software team for larger-scale data analysis and SPC related activities
Will often include working to put together data from multiple sources and in multiple formats - getting them into your preferred format for analysis
Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and / or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
Cognizant of Environmental, Health, and Safety issues, focus on continuous improvement, and comply to all industry specifications and standards
Requirements:Education:
BS or MS in Material Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemistry, Statistics, or similar.
3-5 years professional experience or equivalent combination of school projects and professional experience in an engineering or scientific field
Preferred Experience:
Experimental design – able to set up and perform hypothesis testing and achieve given confidence intervals
Materials Testing, including tensile and fatigue a plus
Scientific/Research projects
Firm knowledge in MS-Office applications
Excel VBA, Python, MATLAB, Minitab, R
LabView
Team-oriented, open-minded, analytical and flexible personality
Solid interpersonal skills with the ability to interface effectively with other team members and manufacturing teams
