About the job
About Us: Mission Driven + Backed by Top Investors and Advisors
We're a newly funded, stealth company on a mission to transform healthcare navigation in the U.S. We’re a mission-focused company. We aspire to create a better life for every American— we’ll dedicate our time and resources to this pursuit.
Founders:
- Cofounder: 2x-time founder, Ex-Facebook, ex-product growth at exited co for $600m+, worked at YC companies, founded UV filtration system, ex Morgan Stanley, and alumn @ Harvard University.
- Cofounder: 2x- founder exited, ex CEO of 500+ org with $50m in revenue, VC in Health, Harvard + Harvard Business School
How we operate:
- How we operate: believe in conscious leadership, GSD, and being highly focused on results with an understanding that you have to work hard, iterate, and ship as fast as possible.
Funding: Investors / Advisors: well funded and looking to be lean
- We've raised a VC round to be lean and mean. We have top angels/advisors from healthcare, fortune 500 companies, and exited founders.
Our vision:
Provide every American with a patient navigator to handle their healthcare needs. We're building a business-in-a-box platform leveraging AI for care navigators/patient advocates (think what [Alma]/[Headway] did but for navigators). The problem is huge: patient advocates are underserved, 130m Americans have a chronic disease and 90% of Americans are healthcare illiterate and need support navigating insurance and healthcare. Recent regulation allows payor unlock which is a big why now.
Our team is on the hunt for exceptional individuals – those rare few driven to make a real impact in the world. We're not seeking candidates whose primary goal is to work less or earn more. There are numerous well-paying, comfortable positions elsewhere; that's not the essence of our ethos. Our culture is intentionally shaped to elevate high performance and to inspire each of us to excel daily. Simultaneously, we're committed to avoiding the pitfalls of corporate excess. Bureaucracy is the enemy of enthusiasm and, ultimately, of our business's success. Staying lean and agile is crucial to fulfilling our mission. Our company pledges to always prioritize humanity's best interests, uphold ethical standards, and ensure fair treatment for all. We steer clear of engaging in social activism or assuming ill intent. Our focus is singular and steadfast: to develop and launch a meaningful, beneficial product
Role + what we’re looking for:
- You're a product minded engineering leader with business chops
- You're a doer, wants to build and will be coding
- You're a missionary :)
We're looking for a Founding Engineer who’ll build and architect our platform from day 1. We are looking for a technical leader who has a deep computer science and software engineering background. You have spent time building and scaling software at tech-focused companies, where you are seen as the go-to technical leader by your peers. You enjoy being product-minded, building and shipping best-in-class software that solves important problems for your customers. Strong software-oriented background/acumen, preferably with specific SaaS experience
- Demonstrated technical leadership experience (ideally in healthcare)
- Experience hiring and building world-class technology teams
- Experience with building and launching high-quality products from ideation to iteration. Having product sense and thinking about trade-offs, user needs, and business outcomes is critical.
What you'll do:
- Lead company's technical roadmap, helping prioritize features and develop launch timeframes that will set the business up for success.
- Approximately 80%+ of your time will be spent SHIPPING aka coding and launching features and services for company’s website, patient app, stack backend, and 3rd-party integrations.
- Clear understanding of what needs to be built vs outsourced.
- Plan, architect, write, test, and comment their code well
- Eliminate ambiguity to ensure that agency decisions are balancing expediency with quality, minimizing technical debt while building a quality product.
- Support partner ecosystem technical due diligence while ensuring the Voice of the customer.
What you'll need:
- 8+ years of experience of full-stack web development with Ruby on Rails, Python/Django, Elixir/Phoenix or similar. Additionally: min 2+ years with Javascript / React / HTML / CSS or equivalent front-end technologies
- Experience in a startup or high growth environment or a start-up mindset in a larger organization.
- You know how to ask the right questions and can take vague product requirements to build something that will delight our users.
- You can make tradeoffs and feel confident making decisions to balance speed, quality, and the needs of the business.
- You know best practices when it comes to security.
- Know some devops ( AWS, GCP) or used Platform-as-a-service provider (Aptible, Fly.io)
- Experience with building and using RESTful APIs, understanding of data schema design, and understanding performance pitfalls. Experience with Relational Databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL or equivalent).
- Experience with Agile development and comfortable decomposing complex problem statements.
- Nice to haves: healthcare experience
What you'll bring to the table:
- You are excited about keeping things simple.
- Want and desire to design and architect something from scratch.
- You are a structured thinker; you have a method to analyze a problem and solve it in a way so others can see how you think and follow your train of thought clearly.
- You are consumer/ oriented; you focus solutions around real user/consumer needs, not around technical novelty.
- You have a strong communication style with both technical and non-technical team members.
Who you are:
- Action Oriented. You readily take action on new opportunities with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm. You display a can-do attitude, and step up to handle tough issues.
- Manages Ambiguity. You deal comfortably with the uncertainty of change, and are calm and productive, even when things are up in the air.
