About the job
Note: This position is currently not salaried. We're looking for someone who is passionate about our mission and interested in growing with us. Discussions regarding future compensation, including equal equity split among the early team, will be based on mutual team agreement as we evolve and formalize our business structure.
Front-End Engineer— Equity (0.5%–2.0%)
Palette is building a product that turns travel inspiration into structured trip plans and map-based itineraries. We are launching a live beta in the next month, and we are looking for a front-end engineer to own core UX flows and our mapping experience.
Why Palette?
- Build something travelers actually use, and ship weekly as we learn from live beta users.
- Work on a product with a real technical wedge: maps + itinerary workflows that need strong UX and solid engineering.
- Join a small, remote team where your work directly shapes the experience and the roadmap.
🌍
If you like building products from scratch, moving fast, and sweating details, you’ll have a lot of ownership here.
What you’ll work on
- Ship new features fast as we roll into live beta.
- Own iterations, bug fixes, and occasional rebuilds as we learn from real users.
- Primary focus: lead our map experience end-to-end.
- Own Map API integration and core map functions.
- Implement map + itinerary workflows that work together.
- Think through different “modes” of use, including planning vs. in-trip usage.
- Ensure the experience feels great on mobile and desktop.
- Secondary focus: contribute across the rest of the product UI when needed (core flows, UI components, performance, and polish).
- Bring mapping and product ideas to the table, not just implementation.
What we’re looking for
- A product builder who has shipped something real (a side project from scratch is great).
- Strong front-end fundamentals (component architecture, state management, performance, UI polish).
- Comfortable working in ambiguity and iterating quickly based on feedback.
- Strong communication in an async, remote team.
- Excited about travel and travel data.
Nice to have
- Deep experience with mapping (Mapbox, Google Maps, Leaflet, etc.) and geospatial UX patterns.
- Experience building responsive, mobile-first UIs.
Working model
- Remote.
- Main collaboration time zones: PST and EST.
- Team locations: Vancouver and Toronto.
Equity + trial
- Equity range: 0.5%–2.0%.
- This role is currently not salaried.
- 60-day working trial (for both sides to assess fit).
- By day 30, we will align on working relationship expectations and discuss equity details such as vesting schedule and long-term structure.
- This is a developer role that can grow into founder-track for someone who shows consistent ownership and lead qualities.
Tech stack
- Front-end: Next.js, React, Material UI
- Backend: Node.js, Express
- Database: MongoDB (Typegoose)
- Authentication/Authorization: Auth0 (currently on free tier, up to 7,500 users)
- Infra: Cloudflare
- Maps: Apple MapKit (Apple Developer subscription)
