We are looking for an Experimental Physicist with experience in transforming complex atomic physics experiments into practical applications. As a member of the engineering and technology organization, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team of scientists and engineers whose mission is to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems. You’ll be a technical contributor on the team responsible for commissioning and initial demonstration of our next-generation Barium quantum computers in our new Seattle facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Build, commission, and test a next-generation Barium trapped ion quantum computer from the ground up
  • Closely collaborate with the optical, mechanical, and electrical engineering teams in the validation of performance of critical sub-systems of a trapped-ion quantum computer
  • Demonstrate the initial ion trapping and gate fidelity measurements in a new quantum computer

  • PhD in experimental physics or related field, with deep knowledge of atomic physics
  • Experience designing, characterizing and operating complex trapped ion or neutral atom systems and experiments
  • Demonstrated experimental experience with one or more of the following specialities: ultracold atomic physics, ion trapping, laser spectroscopy, or precision metrology
  • 1+ years of relevant post-PhD experience

You’d be a great fit with:

  • Experience working with high NA optics, optical design, or development of complex optical systems
  • Experience in cryogenics
  • Proficiency in automation of experimental and data acquisition software using modern software tools
  • Engineering or systems engineering experience in transforming a complex physical system into a product based on detailed technical requirements
