Alation is seeking a Director of Product Management to join the team in Chennai, India (or remote from another city in India). We’re looking for a world-class Product Leader who shares our vision for a more curious and rational world and can evangelize our vision internally and externally. As a Director of Product Management at Alation you will be working to unlock the value of the data: help people to find, understand, and trust data that they already have. The ideal candidate will work on defining the strategic vision of the product, building and managing a team of PMs, and executing against the product roadmap.
In this particular role, you’ll be leading and expanding the Alation connectivity product team, responsible for how Alation’s Data Intelligence Platform integrates with hundreds of databases, business intelligence systems, file systems, ETL/ELT tools and more.
What you'll do:
- Define and articulate strategic direction and product roadmap across many stakeholders including external customers, sales, customer success, engineering and design.
- Be data-driven, creating and monitoring product and customer value metrics to make objective prioritization decisions
- Mentor and motivate your existing team members and bring new members onboard.
- Build cross-team relationships and processes to ensure your team collaborates well with the broader organization.
- Select and own outsourcing partner relationships
- Manage and communicate release schedules, goals, and dependencies internally and externally, partnering with customers, sales, customer success and marketing
You should have:
- 10+ years of hands-on product management experience - both outbound and inbound - in a fast-paced agile development environment
- 5+ years of management experience leading a group of PMs
- Self-starter with strong creative problem solving, facilitation and interpersonal skills
- Confident engaging with and presenting to management of major Fortune 500 companies across industries
- Hands-on domain experience in data catalog, data management /or analytics, including business intelligence and/or database systems
- Managed and led teams with broad strategic area of ownership for a product
- Skilled in discussing technical details with engineers & product design while also clearly communicating at a high level with leadership, sales marketing, and customers
- Platform experience not required by highly desirable (Connectors, API/SDKs, etc)
- Experience managing and leading partner engagement program for developing an ecosystem is highly desirable
- Deep understanding of cloud data ecosystems offered by platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus

- You have experience with SQL queries and principles of schema design
