About the job
ABOUT THE JOB
Flatirons Development is seeking a Directory of Technology to oversee the engineering arm of our business. Chief responsibilities of this role will include working directly with engineers on execution, as well as team and project oversight. The right person will have a strong combination of technological skills, soft skills, multitasking, and working directly on projects alongside managers to ensure that deadlines are met. We currently specialize in Ruby on Rails, React, React Native, and will consider expanding our technology set but have no immediate plans to.
ABOUT THE COMPANY
Flatirons Development is a boutique product development consultancy co-located in Boulder, Colorado and Colombia. Flatirons Development was created to transform the traditional development consultancy, which specializes in building software, to a model that is primarily focused on making successful products. Our core focus, above and beyond building great software, is to build impactful products that improve business metrics. Our leadership team consists of seasoned web and mobile product management, design, and software development. We consider ourselves to be a design-forward agency. We heavily focus on the startup industry as that is where our passion lies. Our executive team has a heavy background in the startup world.
Flatirons Fund, the investment arm of Flatirons Development, was launched in 2020 to encourage innovation during a troubled economic climate and the years beyond. We are focused on supporting and advancing a new wave of founders, particularly women and people of color who have traditionally been underrepresented in venture capital. By investing product development and design resources in early-stage companies, our goal is to get founders to a place where they can go out and successfully raise funds or hit their next big milestone.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
Technical Product Management
- Helping our clients (startups) with product strategy where appropriate
- Working with project managers to ensure that roadmaps are appropriately planned, estimated and executed on time. You have the ability to work with our leadership team through the process of establishing an initial roadmap for clients.
- Work directly with clients to ensure that our projects are running smoothly and that they feel they are in good hands and supported by Flatirons
- Help with product and technical management of an internal product (Flatirons Fuse)
- Help bridge the gap between design and development to ensure that we are creating designs that are feasible for us to execute on within a given time frame
- Creating efficiencies in the ways that we build products and minimizing redundancy of implementation across products
- Helping run and reducing risk throughout the entire sprint process
- Contribute and pair program with individuals when a scope of work is outside of their expertise and you are more efficiently able to help them deliver on a track of work
- Acting as a team leader and proactively mentoring individuals where appropriate
ABOUT YOU
- You have an interest, and preferably a background, in the startup ecosystem
- You have a well-established track record of managing development teams
- You have strong skills when it comes to estimating and executing on roadmaps
- You know or are able to quickly pick up on Ruby on Rails and React.
- Your knowledge of technology runs deep -- we would prefer depth as opposed to breadth. You are an expert in popular technologies (Rails, Node, Python, React).
- You care about end-user experience
- You have very strong soft skills
- You are creative and have the desire to explore and execute on new ideas as they arise, including but not limited to ways to scale Flatirons Fund or ways to execute on internally owned products
BONUSES
- You are interested in product ownership. Flatirons will be launching its first SaaS product soon, and also help our clients with decisions around initial product launches.
