Chief Data Scientist

Who We Are:

Pathloom, a pre-seed technology startup in the outdoor recreation space, is looking for a Chief Data Scientist to join our engineering team, and facilitate the development of our outdoor travel planning technology. We are utilizing our unique platform to simplify the outdoors discovery and planning process, and we’re looking for an experienced technology professional with an interest in entrepreneurship and perhaps a passion for the outdoors to help us succeed in our mission! We’re building the world’s first all-in-one outdoor travel planning app, and we want your help to make it happen!

Who You Are:

We are seeking a proactive, self-motivated, organized technology professional with a true hustler mentality to join our core team as a Chief Data Scientist. We want someone with a passion for technology, who has extensive experience in GIS and database operations. Our ideal candidate is agile, can communicate effectively, and can adapt to new challenges as they arise, who is willing to speak up and make suggestions on improvements to our processes as needed. We want our candidate to have experience with (and be passionate about) early-stage, pre-seed startups, and - as such - would be open to a primarily equity-based compensation package.

Ideally we are looking for someone who loves the outdoors as much as we do!

Minimum Requirements:

• 6+ years Data Science/Analysis experience
• BS in Computer Science/Engineering, Data Science/Engineering, or GIS
• Proficiency in R, Python, PostgreSQL, ArcGIS, QGIS, REST APIs
• Experience working with algorithms and databases
• Previous startup experience
• Previous Big Data experience
• Strong GIS Background
• Strong mathematics background

Preferred Experience:

• 10+ years Data Science/Analysis experience
• MS in Computer Science/Engineering, Data Science/Engineering, or GIS
• Proficiency in MapBox, Github, AI/ML/NLP, Crawling
• Software Engineering / Computer Science background
• Past Senior Data Science role
• Early-stage startup experience (pre-seed)

What You’ll Do:

This position provides an opportunity for an experienced technology professional to join a startup in its early stages, and play an active role in building out the technology that will launch us through multiple phases of rapid growth and development as both a technology platform, and as a company overall! Your role will be to own all data acquisition, processing, and management operations; and manage all database and GIS operations as well. This is an especially important role as we work to integrate data from multiple sources into our app and develop comprehensive databases of outdoor recreational opportunities throughout the country.
