I once drank 20 espresso shots during the course of a 90-minute meeting with a team of crack Israeli hackers. They freaked out. I was totally chill about it . . . No big deal. #LowKey #IntimidationMoves

    Q&A
What's the best way for people to get in touch with you?

What words of wisdom do you live by?

    1. The sapling that is always protected from strong winds will never grow into a strong tree.
    2. If you know how to learn you know enough.

What aspects of your work are you most passionate about?

Research and analysis to find answers to poorly defined questions, and figuring out the unknown.

What was the most impactful class you took in school?

Narrative non-fiction, it drove home the importance of knowing how to communicate to different audiences. In the information age, the ability to clearly communicate ideas developed from one's research and analysis is a differentiating skill to have.

What's something you wish you had done years earlier?

I wish I had been exposed to computers before I arrived in the United States to go to college. I took two CompSci classes but abandoned the minor - I thought there was no way I could ever be good at it. I now wish I could get a do-over.

    What's an obstacle you've overcome?

A neurological disorder that resulted in me having seizures, a severe stutter - I joined the debate club and also became a radio deejay, I wet my bed till I was in boarding school in Ghana then one day I decided "This shit has to stop."

    What's your favorite non-business book?

Sea Biscuit. The movie is great too.

If money were not an issue, what would you be doing right now?

Deejaying and presenting a reggae show on radio, deejaying at a night club . . . Working out - running, also studying some math and physics and computer science.

What words of advice would you give your younger self?

You are capable of more than you think. You can take more than you think. Do not commit to anything to which you can't give your best.

What's the most creative thing you've ever done?

I formulated a pricing model for a family of financial derivatives that we failed to bring to market because we were unable to establish product-market fit. It tied together a lot of things I love. The intellectual challenge was priceless.

Which founders or startups do you most admire?

My mom . . . She's run a school in Kano, Nigeria since 1986. Also, my grandfather . . . He was a subsistence farmer in the Upper West Region of Ghana. They work harder than anyone else I know. I try to emulate them.

    What's your super power?

I am not afraid to be different. I am not afraid to fail. I embrace uncertainty.
