Artificial Intelligence applied to cryptic crosswords
Crossword Genius is a new app focused on cryptic crosswords. An intelligent assistant called Ross is always on hand to give hints when you are stuck, explain… · More how a clue works or solve it for you.

Ross can also use state-of-the-art machine vision to lift a crossword straight off the page of a newspaper and allow you to solve it on your phone.

Ross is continuously learning and improving.

Crossword Genius (and Ross) is an early product of Unlikely AI - a London based startup. The app is a largely a test bed for some unconventional ideas in AI which will be progressed in other products with larger world impact.

    About
    Achievements

I founded Evi (formerly True Knowledge) in 2005 based on technology I invented.

The technology uses a huge knowledge base of the world's common sense, factual and lexical knowledge to understand natural language and reason to answer questions. The consistent vision was and still is a world you could just ask computers for what you wanted in plain English, be understood and get back exactly what you asked for.

I was the CEO of the business for almost all the company history and we raised multiple rounds of venture capital prior to a successful acquisition by Amazon in 2012. Within Amazon I was a leader in the team that defined, built and launched Echo and Alexa which is now one of the hottest consumer tech products in the US (and more recently the UK and Germany). With the acquisition a big success I made the difficult decision to leave Amazon in February 2016.
