    Schrodinger
Product Manager 2017 - Present (almost 9 years)
I am the product manager responsible for a large team of software engineers, data scientists and chemists, creating multiple ML and deep-learning products for drug and materials... more discovery. My job responsibilities include design and specification of our software tools, but also business strategy, sales and regular customer outreach.

    Major accomplishments include:

    - Project manager for several custom scientific development contracts, representing over $1M in direct revenue, and coordinating the efforts of over 30 engineers and scientists across multiple teams in the company.

    - Intimately involved in the sale, contract negotiation and final delivery of a large, multi-year software development contract for a Fortune 500 customer.

    - Conceived and designed (including requirements, system design, API specification and UI/UX) a new web-based product line for automated, container-based ML modeling for chemical discovery, based on Schrödinger's LiveDesign platform, and oversaw development of the first customer releases.

    - Re-designed the user interface for the AutoQSAR/DeepChem QSPR software product and prioritized development over years of quarterly releases.

    - Released Automated Compound Extraction - a product for automated, push-button extraction of chemical data (SMILES strings) from molecular images.

    - Numerous site visits, calls, scientific conference presentations and other direct customer contacts in support of sales for the company's software products.

    Omniref
    Founder & CEO 2013 - 2016 (almost 3 years)
Co-founder and CEO of Omniref, a website for documenting and annotating software source code. Grew the site from launch, to hundreds of thousands of monthly unique visitors.... more Participated in the YCombinator Winter 2015 batch, and raised significant outside funding.

Obviously, it failed, but not for lack of trying.

In addition to all non-technical tasks, did front- and back-end development work for the site.
    Vayable
    Vayable
    Founder & CEO 2012 - 2013 (over 1 year)
Co-founder and CTO of Vayable.com, a marketplace for unique tours and experiences, worldwide. Participated in YCombinator Summer 2012, and raised significant outside funding... more from top angel and venture investors. Covered extensively by the New York Times, Fortune, and many others.

Sole author of the original site, grew the engineering team, and co-managed a team of a dozen technical and non-technical employees. Met with investors, coordinated product development, user outreach, support, web marketing, and basically anything else that needed to be done.

    Senior Software Engineer 2010 - 2012 (about 2 years)
An early member of the search and data-mining team, and a "data scientist" before the term existed, I wrote Yelp's first A/B testing framework, maintained and helped internationalize... more the search system, and developed infrastructure for the real-time gathering and analysis of site metrics. Years before the advent of frameworks like Apache Spark, this system was processing hundreds of gigabytes of data daily at launch, and touches every page view on Yelp.com -- a top global website, with over a hundred million monthly unique visitors.

In addition to software contributions, created an "experiments committee" to promote good experimental design within the engineering and product management teams, was a member of the senior engineering review team, and did a large number of interviews, resume screens and code reviews at a time of rapid growth.

    Senior Software Engineer 2008 - 2010 (over 1 year)
One of the first engineers for the site that became Twitch (Justin.tv; acquired by Amazon), responsible for design, development and maintenance of major user-facing and back-end... more features that still exist today. Accomplishments include:

    - Developed a pro account feature and oversaw its development into a source of millions of dollars in annual revenue.

    - Built and maintained a software infrastructure for direct and recurring electronic payments that handled tens of thousands of transactions every month.

    - Created a real-time storage infrastructure used to archive over 60TB of video data every month, saving more than $50,000 per month in bandwidth and storage costs at the time of deployment (and ultimately, millions of dollars).

    About
    Achievements

For the past several years, I've been a PM at Schrödinger, responsible for the machine learning team, as well as creating new ML products for computational chemistry. It's been a fun new direction for me, but still consistent with my experience as a two-time entrepreneur and long-time engineer.

I was one of the first engineers at the startup that became Twitch -- I built their video archiving system, payments system, and a pro-account feature that grew to millions of dollars in annual revenue. All while the site was experiencing triple-digit annual growth rates.

At Yelp, I built their internal A/B testing and analytics tools (i.e. "data science", before the term was invented), implemented search features, and generally worked to make the site development process more data-driven.

I also founded two YCombinator-funded startups: Vayable and Omniref.
