As Country Director for Relief International’s (RI) Sri Lanka programs I was in charge of determining the organization’s strategic direction which, in turn, would determine our success. In just 5 years I was able to grow the organisation from a 10 employee, $100,000 USD operation to a nationwide operation worth $3,000,000 and with over 300 employees and volunteers. A competitive gap analysis which allowed me to carve out a niche for the organization, positioning it as a low-cost service provider that relied heavily on its strength in local human capital and knowhow, and with the ability to react with greater speed and agility than some of our larger competitors.
I operated in a highly unpredictable, pressurised and politicised environment. I am proud to have played an instrumental role in assisting over 300,000 IDPs affected by war, providing relief and rehabilitation at a time when they needed it most.
