    ActionIQ
Founder, CTO, Board Member 2014 - Present (about 12 years)
Building next generation MPP database technology and applying it to real world use cases. We're funded by top vcs (Sequoia Capital, a16z), are growing fast, have customers... more using our product every day.

ActionIQ is a team of passionate tech visionaries from top software companies and schools with experience in databases, distributed systems, and data design. Our work ranges from the UI layer all the way down to database kernels, low-level I/O and distributed networking. We're utilizing some of the latest technologies, working with lots of open source software, and creating distributed systems unrivaled by the state of the art today.

Software Engineer - Android Core / Infrastructure
Improved core infrastructure behind main news feed. Worked on re-architecture of core rendering pipeline. Optimized performance... more of entire app. All together led to significant increase in usage, engagement within app, and ads revenue.

    Software Engineer - Data Infrastructure
Built graph processing system that dramatically improved social graph processing at Facebook.

Our system executed jobs orders of magnitude faster, with significantly less required resources. Became de facto infrastructure for large scale graph analytics, taking over Hadoop/Hive jobs.

Use cases included analytic workloads, as well as predictive algorithms like K-Means and Label Propagation. System is used by many teams internally, including business intelligence, inference, advertising, and marketing.

    Software Engineer - Ads Optimization
Designed, architected, and implemented a scalable service to relate user actions on site with advertisements they've seen. The statistics provided advertisers with conversion numbers and became one of the most popular features of Facebook's ad product.

Analyzed and implemented new features for the CTR (clickthru rate) and NFB (negative feedback rate) models. Improved performance of model execution and parallelized algorithm.
Substantial improvements to A/B testing and experimentation platform used by the Ads team. Managed data gathering and metric computation pipelines.

    Software Engineer 2008 - 2009 (about 1 year)
    - Contributed to HBase, an open source distributed database started at Powerset that is based on Google's BigTable. My contributions helped integrate ZooKeeper into the project,... more which substantially improved the coordination between all of the servers involved, and made me a committer to HBase.
    - Aided in development of indexing pipeline using Hadoop and HBase to churn indexes on a large scale.
    - Designed and implemented tools for failure analysis of machine learned ranking models. These tools were used to figure out why certain query-document pairs get scored as they do by a machine learned model.

    Software Engineer 2007 - 2008 (over 1 year)
    - Designer and key implementer of a fact-based indexing infrastructure to generate, merge, and verify indexes in flexible ways.
    - Coordinated with ranking team to establish... more interchange formats and define index structure.
Employed modern C++ static polymorphism mechanisms to handle various types of data through choice of index traits.
    - Together with ranking team, designed and developed key search operators which are at the core of the query execution system. These operators, alongside the query expression language we perfected, were conceived in an expressive manner while keeping an eye on the back-end performance of the system.
    - Implemented and enhanced a semantic constraint-matching algorithm. This algorithm advances the query execution system beyond keyword search by applying high-level semantic comparisons to entities in documents.
    - Wrote a Ruby compiler for machine-learned general boosted models. These are incorporated in dynamic libraries that can be linked with the query execution system on the fly, enabling fast experimentation of ranking features and quick turn around of scoring operators.
    - Spearheaded engineering best practices such as unit testing in C++ and effective source code management.
    - Contributed Ruby patches to Facebook's Open Source Thrift middleware system.

    Engineering Intern 2006 (3 months)
    - Developed Benchmark Results Repository and Display (BRRD), a versatile and flexible statistical benchmarking system for tracking performance of internal Google software... more over time.
    - Implemented in Python, with C++ for performance intensive tasks, and HTML/CSS/Javascript for the front end.
    - Added support for fingerprinting, UTC time stamp, dumping debug information, and data notifications.
    - Programmed a client for the system that reads logs of index server load tests and produces benchmark statistics.
    Engineering Intern 2005 (3 months)
    - Designed and programmed fully automatic, hands-free software suite for hardware testing. Implemented in C++ from the bottom up with abstraction, modularity, and flexibility... more in mind.
    - Collaborated with designers and manufacturing firms to ensure products passed spec requirements.
