In 2008, I founded BackType, initially a search engine for online conversation, that pivoted to become a marketing intelligence company that helped brands and agencies understand the business impact of social media. BackType was funded by Y Combinator, True Ventures, Lowercase Capital and others before being acquired by Twitter in 2011.
Following the acquisition, the BackType team integrated our products and technologies into ads.twitter.com and Twitter's core infrastructure. Storm, the real-time data processing technology that we created and open sourced powered applications across the company from analytics and other advertiser products to search and discovery.
I led the advertiser experience as a Director of Engineer on the Revenue team through the end of 2015. In 2016, I led the Home Timeline team as we launched ranking for the first time. My role expanded first into the VP of Consumer Engineering, and in 2018 to the Head of Engineering for the company.
