Maria Thomas has been at the leading edge of disruptive innovation since 1999 when she joined Amazon.com as an early product leader. She went on to lead NPR’s digital transformation. There, she hired and led a talented, cross-functional team which built products used by millions: NPR.org, NPR Mobile, NPR Podcasting and NPR Music. In 2008, Maria became CEO of Etsy (NASDAQ: ETSY) where she led the company through a period of significant growth and internationalization, leading to profitability. Several years later, she became Chief Consumer Officer at SmartThings, an early stage smart home technology company acquired by Samsung in 2014.
Maria currently splits her time between serving on boards and working with startups. She serves on the boards of McClatchy (NYSE-American: MNI) and Control4 (NASDAQ: CTRL). In addition, she serves on the board of a privately-held ecommerce company, Spoonflower.
In 2012, Business Insider named Maria among the top angel investors in New York.
