Over the years Flashpoint transformed into an international technology investment firm, backing software companies with global ambitions built by founders from Central and... more Eastern Europe, the Baltics, the CIS, Finland, and Israel. Being a co-founder of any business is incredibly hard and exhilarating, but also very rewarding – it provided me with a range of insights into the venture capital space within the investment industry and also the technology sector, which I would like to share with the Forbes Technology Council.
Flashpoint is made up of three products, each of which represents a distinct investment strategy:
Flashpoint Venture Capital, focusing on late-seed and Series A stage companies;
Flashpoint Venture Debt, designed primarily to top-up Series B deals with mezzanine financing; and
Flashpoint Secondary, offering secondary liquidity to early-stage investors, employees, and founders in Series C stage companies and beyond.
We work with a wide variety of tech businesses across different verticals and stages of development, which allows me to offer a unique and current perspective on a variety of topics, including the key market trends that shape the development of the tech ecosystem in our markets, insights into our own investment strategies and those of other venture capital players.
In its nine years of operations, Flashpoint went through rapid development and change and now has a team of 25 full-time employees scattered across eight countries. Our assets under management grew from US$10m at the start to over US$350m today. We invested into 29 tech businesses and completed ca. 70 follow-on investments into the most successful companies within our portfolio. We have also achieved eight exits, including the sale of Shazam to Apple and the majority of our stake in Chess.com to PokerStars founder Mark Scheinberg.
Our investment approach to sourcing and selecting prospective investment targets is tech-enabled and data-driven. We work with a limited number of companies, and try to be actively involved in creating value and assisting the founders in realizing value in these businesses.
