Chris Wiggins, Columbia University's applied mathematics associate professor, is a key player in data science, also serving as The New York Times' Chief Data Scientist. A foundational member of Columbia's Data Science Institute, Applied Physics & Applied Mathematics Department, and Systems Biology Department, he's also part of the Statistics faculty. He co-founded hackNY, a nonprofit that offers internships at NYC startups since 2010. His early career saw him as a Courant Instructor at NYU and earning a PhD in theoretical physics from Princeton University. An American Physical Society Fellow, he's an Avanessians Diversity Award recipient. His noteworthy publications include "Data Science in Context: Foundations, Challenges, Opportunities" and "How Data Happened: A History from the Age of Reason to the Age of Algorithms."
