In the early 90s I led the effort to implement Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Open Innovation (Before they were called that). We developed a range of new technologies (high speed machining, friction stir welding, etc) allowing us to save DOD billions. Our approach is now the baseline for aircraft design and manufacturing, across defense and commercial applications. A transition expected to take decades occurred in less than 8 years.

In 2005 I joined Gridlogix a president and employee #6, before energy, retro commissioning, clean-tech etc were the rage. As a tiny company we successfully pursued and won the defining industry project using software (Big Data) to reduce energy 20% for 1,000 buildings. By listening to the customer we transitioned technology to market, creating a new industry segment in less than 3 years and achieving a high value exit, and terrific return to our investors. With an 18 month payback, we proved you can deliver CleanTech less than dirty.
