The Role

Ready to change the world?

We are reinventing how products are delivered around the world by unlocking the path not yet traveled. Our company was founded in 2015 and is backed by Silicon Valley’s most prominent VCs, including YCombinator, Lightspeed, and Icon Ventures. Volansi provides fast on-demand aerial delivery service for time-critical shipments over long ranges. We build and operate long-range, high-payload drones for commercial, defense, and humanitarian applications. Leveraging drone technology as a transportation method, we help our customers gain control of their supply chain and save millions of dollars on downtime and inventory costs.

Our work came from the immediate need for critical delivery of parts to drastically reduce downtime for an automotive company. From this idea, our founders have scaled the company into a team of highly skilled and motivated individuals to serve critical delivery markets.

We are looking for a self-motivated, ultra-organized and pragmatic Senior Technical Program Manager (TPM) with a burning desire to constantly push the known boundaries of technology to create the next generation of delivery platforms. The successful candidate will be in charge of managing a highly complex robotics engineering program comprising both software development (full stack) and electronics hardware development that will impact all our delivery platforms. This position will report directly to the VP of Product and Program Management, within the Product & Engineering organization.

What you will do:

  • Using our product roadmap as a guiding star, you will determine and own the top program objectives. You will then work with the engineering team to define the best plan for execution, using critical path analysis and careful resource allocation, to ensure on-time delivery
  • You will coordinate the activities of the team, monitor progress, and remove obstacles along the way
  • You will own supplier relationships, performing RFPs and negotiating contracts as needed to support the team, and following up on supplier progress
  • You will own the program budget and provide regular updates on spend, performing variance analysis. You will also deliver regular budget outlooks, taking into account budgetary risks and opportunities
  • You will own the product Recurring Cost (RC) and work with the engineering team along the entire duration of the program to make sure that RC targets are met
  • You will perform relevant risk and opportunity analyses regularly to make sure that you and the team constantly stay ahead of the game and thwart problems before they can have an impact on your program

  • At least 7 years of experience managing increasingly complex, fast-paced robotics engineering development programs
  • Experience with both software development programs and hardware development programs
  • Exceptional ability to create order, develop and implement processes, and align teams around complex technical objectives
  • Superior critical thinking and communication abilities
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Experience running effective sprints and using JIRA and Confluence

  • Technical degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Computer Science, Electrical Engineering)
  • Hands-on engineering experience
  • Past aerospace, logistics or transportation industry experience
  • Experience running programs that combined software and hardware development
  • Project or program management qualifications (e.g. PMP)
