About Skillify
Skillify is on a mission to ensure every high school student graduates with employable skills and real-world exposure.
Through dynamic in-person workshops and personalized virtual coaching, we empower students to explore their career interests and develop critical professional skills like networking, communication, email etiquette, resume writing, and interviewing.
Since its founding in 2012, Skillify has worked with thousands of students across 200+ high schools. Our impact has earned awards and recognition, including founder Shireen Jaffer being named a Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree in Education and a Top 8 Social Entrepreneur by the Clinton Global Initiative. After pausing efforts in 2020, we are reigniting our mission stronger than ever, building on our track record of excellence while scaling for greater impact.
As we rebuild and expand, we’re looking for our first core team members to hit the ground running. This is your chance to be part of something big, build with us from the ground up, and make a lasting difference in students’ lives.
Role Overview
Each year, thousands of students enroll in Skillify programs, and we are looking for a dedicated, energetic, and adaptable individual to ensure they are supported and engaged in the best ways possible.
You’ll work closely with us, the two founders, to deliver outstanding experiences for students while also shaping the future of our programs.
As a Student Success Coach, you will play a critical role in delivering Skillify’s mission by working directly with students and schools. You will master the Skillify curriculum, lead engaging in-person workshops for high school students, and provide follow-up coaching virtually. You’ll also represent Skillify at conferences and trade shows, work closely with partner schools, and collaborate with the founders to shape and improve the program as we grow.
This role is perfect for someone who is equal parts people-person and detail-obsessed. You love public speaking and engaging audiences, but you’re just as comfortable managing the behind-the-scenes processes that make programs run seamlessly. You’re excited to grow with a fast-moving company, wear multiple hats, and contribute to building something meaningful.
If you’re someone who thrives on public speaking, loves building relationships, and has an unparalleled attention to detail, we want you. Think of this as a blend of performer and coordinator—a people person who can manage a hundred moving parts while always delivering with excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Public Speaking & Coaching: Master the Skillify curriculum to deliver engaging in-person workshops on topics like networking, resume writing, interviewing, and more. Provide personalized, remote coaching to students via text, email, and Google Docs, supporting their skill development and ensuring they apply what they’ve learned.
Partner School Communication: Serve as a key point of contact for partner schools, keeping administrators and teachers informed about program outcomes and student progress.
Program Development & Representation: Collaborate with the founders to identify and implement improvements to curriculum and program delivery, ensuring the program remains impactful and innovative. Represent Skillify at conferences and trade shows, raising awareness and building relationships to grow our impact.
Workflow Optimization & AI Tools: Manage and track workflows and communication using tools like Slack, Notion, Google Suite, and Pipedrive. Explore and implement AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude to streamline processes, enhance student engagement, and optimize team operations.
Your First 90 Days:
By February
- Complete training on the Skillify curriculum and processes, and deliver your first in-person workshops to students
- Take ownership of coaching at least 50 students, providing personalized support and ensuring their progress
By March
- Represent Skillify at your first industry conference in Northern California, contributing to awareness-building and outreach
By April
- Be fully independent in delivering workshops, coaching students, and supporting partner schools while identifying new ways to improve program delivery
