About the Position:
cultureNOW is seeking a full-time in-person, remote or hybrid Mobile app Developer to join our team and assist with the upgrade of the cultureNOW android and iOS apps. The suitable candidate must be able to bring great designs to life that translate complex information in an engaging way for a wide range of audiences. The right person will be able to take complex information and data and make it relatable with superb functionality. Our office is located in New York City and our team is both remote and in-person. The initial release for the first phase is scheduled for December, 2024 and quarterly releases planned for the following year.

Responsibilities:
As a Mobile App Developer you will:
- Liaise with and help review the work done by our on-contract developer team,
- Lead in developing clean, enterprise-grade, scalable, and maintainable backend services, intuitive user interfaces and web applications. The app UX/UI design screens are available in Adobe XD.
- Some of the features will include Developing the User Account system, a custom content management system, and the Payment Portal (Stripe and Apple pay)
- Develop strategies for and execute SEO and social networking APIs.
- You will also play a pivotal role in creating highly extensible products within the platform, and solve the complex engineering opportunities that come along with that. You will work with the agile team to continue innovating the product and customer experience.
Required Qualifications:
- 4+ years of experience with architecture and deployment of app platforms, working in both the front and back end of development and incorporating U/I and U/X best practices, and using extensible web authoring tools
- Web and programming experience, including Next.js, React.js, Node.js,
- Flutter,
- Extensive experience with search functionality
- Experience with Image processing, optimization, and using deep zoom for high res images
- Demonstrated experience in building dynamic native iOS and Android applications
- Experience with integrating mapping and navigation services: Google Maps, ESRI (ARC GIS), and Map Tiler
- Experience with Google services: Google App Engine, Google Cloud SQL (PostgreSQL), Google Cloud Storage, Google Cloud Logging / Monitoring, Google Cloud Functions, Vercel, Firebase Hosting, Pub/Sub, API Gateways
- Experience with coordinating with other backend programmers/software developers for specialized scripts. The website has a relational database systems o JSX HTML/XHTML, HTML5, CSS/CSS3, vanilla JavaScript, Taghelper, C#, JavaScript, JSON, and jQuery o PostgreSQL, MySQL, MSSQL or Oracle and a good working knowledge of SQL
- Ability to deliver innovative problem solving skills across backend services & frontend interfaces.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Good to have:
- Lead the cultureNow platform’s Image Recognition initiative
- Be well-versed in web-mapping (GIS), U/I, U/X and data visualization

cultureNOW (cNOW) has been creating a virtual museum of the world outside or a Museum Without Walls for the past 20 years. The digital collection consists of the built environment (architecture) with cultural insertions (public art) overlaid through time (history) with the people who had impact (both current and historical figures) and their events and stories. The database links more than 17,000 sites, 50,000 images, 2500 original podcasts and videos and 50 self guided tours. The app and website won an NYC Big Apps 2.0 Award in 2011 and the American Institute of Architects National Collaborative Achievement Award in 2012. The new version has many new features including historical maps and photos pinned to google maps, image recognition, playlists, calendars, and user accounts allowing people to save sites and make their own tours.
