The Role
HuffPost is seeking a dynamic Investigative Reporter with a political lens who can help advance our award-winning coverage on the National desk. This reporter will focus on major national news stories, with an emphasis on uncovering new details and advancing our reporting with exclusive details. This is a full-time remote position, unless near our NYC or LA office where you will go in two days a week on a hybrid schedule.
The ideal candidate will be versatile and able to cover a variety of stories on the National desk, though having particularly strong issue areas is a plus. A track record of breaking news on stories of national interest is critical, and we prefer candidates with investigative and political backgrounds who are capable of writing both short iterative stories and longer features. This reporter’s beat will depend on their talents and knowledge base and will be heavily driven by the national news cycle. Above all we want to cover issues that are a top priority for our readers – and break news on those stories.
You Will
- Write a combination of fast-paced news as well as longer deep-dive investigations
- Report high-impact pieces on major national news stories that get noticed and compete for awards
- Doggedly pursue your beat and keep on a story once you start to break news
- Contribute to the newsroom’s broader coverage, working at times with Breaking and Politics reporters

You Have
- The ability to develop strong sourcing in a range of areas, depending on the news cycle
- The ability to write clearly
- The skills to use your sourcing to break news of national interest
- Experience filing public records requests
- A firm understanding of American politics
- Data journalism experience is a plus
