The Role

At Glacier, we are taking on one of the world’s most pressing problems: trash. Did you know that in the US, we send over half of our recyclables to the landfill? We're hoping to fix that. In doing so, we’ll also be reducing carbon emissions, energy consumption, and depletion of natural resources.

Glacier’s first product is a robot that uses machine learning and a novel mechanical design to sort recyclables from trash more quickly, accurately and cheaply than any other sorter on the market.

This robot will divert tons of recyclables (literally!) from landfills every day.

We’re looking for a talented field service engineer to keep our growing fleet of robots running smoothly so we can maximize our environmental impact.

This role has a target start date of August 2024

About us:

  • We’re a small team based in SF. Our founders come from Facebook engineering and Bain consulting.
  • Our Field Team has had hands-on experience across multiple industries, from agriculture to aviation.
  • We started Glacier to have a major positive environmental impact, and we are searching for teammates who share in that mission.
  • We’re backed by top-tier VCs and angels with extensive technical and industry expertise.
  • We have several robots in production at customer sites and a robust pipeline of upcoming deployments.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Perform troubleshooting and maintenance efforts for currently installed robots, including on-site trips up to 2-4 times per week across the US.
  • Maximize the uptime of all installed robots in collaboration with our engineering teams. This area of responsibility includes metric-tracking, sharing feedback from operators, and assisting with prototyping and installing new components.
  • Assist with customer-facing documentation, including work instructions, procedures, and processes.
  • Support the internal documentation of customer-impacting issues; ensure that customer issues are being addressed, and proactively communicate needs and improvements during and after site visits.
  • Support the development of customer issue tracking and issue management strategy.
  • Monitoring the status of our actively deployed robotic systems.

Skill requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science OR equivalent combination of education and professional experience
  • Applicable experience in technical hardware and/or field engineering, including on-site assembly, installation, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills
  • Ability to travel and work on-site up to 75% of the time, including some nights and weekends. Travel will be in California and other locations within United States.
  • Attention to detail; you will be performing technical tasks accurately, thoroughly, and with a focus on safety in a demanding physical environment.
  • Self-starter mentality; you will need to be comfortable structuring and solving a wide variety of technical problems with little guidance.
  • Excellent organization, documentation, and communication skills.

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment (heat, ambient noise, dust, debris, etc.).
  • Willingness to work in recycling and waste facilities, which may have exposure to hazardous materials, waste, and airborne particles.
  • Ability to stand, walk, handle or feel, climb, balance, stoop, and kneel.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds at a time.

The total cash compensation range for this role is $70,000 - $100,000. In addition to cash compensation, Glacier also offers competitive equity compensation and benefits. The final compensation for this role will depend on many individualized factors, including job-related skills and knowledge, experience level, interview performance, and other factors.
