Backend Engineer

The Role

We are looking for a backend developer to help us build out our products.

1. Design and implementation of low-latency, high-availability, and performant APIs and applications
2. Write scalable, reusable, testable, and clean code
3. Implement security and data protection
4. Integrate with databases and messaging services
5. Integrate user-facing elements developed by front-end developers with server side logic
6. Work as part of a team using Agile development methods

You are someone with the following attributes 🤞🏽

1. Fits the description of who we are looking for on culture and values (see here.
2. Can write clean code and demonstrate top notch general programming skills in Python (alongside theFastAPI web frameworks is idea, but if you've used Flask or Django before that's ok too)
3. Understanding of fundamental design principles behind a scalable application
4. Has knowledge of unit testing frameworks (eg. Pytest for Python)
5. Is comfortable with data structures and databases
   • Able to create database schemas that represent and support business processes.
   • SQL databases (MySQL) and associated ORM libraries
   • No SQL databases (eg. MongoDB) and associated ORM libraries
   • Performance production databases (eg. DynamoDB)
   • Big data frameworks (eg. Spark) is a bonus.
6. Knows how to work with code versioning tools and repositories (Git). Comfort with CI/CD pipelines is helpful
7. Has some exposure to AWS tools and services (eg S3 buckets, EC2, RDS).
8. Has some experience with microservices architecture and has used messaging services (eg. Kafka).
9. Is familiar with the basics of HTML, CSS, React and Svelte -- enough to be able to communicate with our front end team.
